چکیده

A previously healthy 26-year-old woman underwent a routine Papanicolaou test a few weeks after first coitus. As the results suggested atypical squamous cells of uncertain significance, she was referred to a gynecologist. The uterine cervix appeared grossly normal. Microscopic examination of the blind biopsies of the cervix demonstrated diffuse infiltration of atypical large lymphoid cells admixed with small lymphocytes (panels A-B; hematoxylin and eosin, original magnifications310 [A] and340 [B]). The large lymphocytes were immunoreactive for CD20 (panel C; CD20, original magnification 34 [inset 340]) and CD79a, partially positive for BCL-6 and MUM-1, and negative for CD3e, CD5, CD10, BCL-2, and cyclin D1. In situ hybridization of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)–encoded small RNAs (EBER) was positive (panel D; EBER, original magnification 34 [inset 320]). The proliferation fraction, as detected by Ki-67 staining, was high. The surrounding small lymphocytes stained for CD3e, CD5, and CD8. The patient had no symptoms suggesting infectious mononucleosis, nor did she show any abnormalities under comprehensive hematological examinations. The lesion was diagnosed as atypical lymphoid hyperplasia associated with EBV infection. Follow-up examination of cervical biopsies taken every 6 months demonstrated no atypical lymphoid cell infiltration. The majority of immunoblasts in cases of infectious mononucleosis are CD20 B cells with a post–germinal center immunophenotype. EBV infection also causes reactive lymphoid hyperplasia in the uterine cervix of healthy young adults and, although benign, can easily mimic malignant lymphoma.

Expression of Epstein-Barr virus in Hodgkin lymphoma Specimens in IRAN.

Background & Objectives: The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV( is related with various diseases including infectious mononucleosis, Burkitt's lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and post-transplant lymphoprolifrative disorders. The aim of this study was to characterize the association between EBV and Hodgkin's lymphoma through EBERs in situ hybridization (EBER-ISH) in Iranian pat...

Lymphoma infectious mononucleosis by Epstein-Barr virus: A case report

Background: Epstein-Bar virus (EBV) causes infectious mononucleosis in more than 90% of children. Rarely, mononucleosis may lead to malignancy. The aim the current study was to introduce a child with mononucleosis and persistent adenopathy. Case report: A 4-year-old male patient presented with complaints of fever, shortness of breath and sore throat. He was treated with antibiotics and prednis...

Seropidemiology of Epstein – Barr virus infection among asymptomatic

Introduction: Epstein – Barr virus (EBV) is a herpesvirus which establishes a persistent life-long infection in over 95% of adults world wide. Infection is usually asymptomatic but the virus is associated with a variety of disease, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), Burkitt’s lymphoma (BL), Multiple sclerosis MS, EBV-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disease (BLPD), Hodgkin and non...

THE IN VITRO GROWTH PROPERTIES OF CELL LINES FROM EPSTEIN-BARR VIRUS-INDUCED TAMARIN TUMORS AND TAMARIN B CELLS TR ANSFORMED BY EPSTEIN BARR VIRUS

EBV-carrying human cell lines, depending on whether the cells are derived from Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) tumor biopsies or transformed by EBV in vitro, have different growth properties in vitro. In contrast, there are no clear differences between tamarin tumor lines and tamarin LCLs in vitro. Both types of tamarin cell lines could grow in agarose and formed colonies unlike human LCLs, althoug...

The Incidence of EBV in Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma: A Comparative Study of Immunohistochemical and PCR Techniques

Background and Objectives: Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) is one of the members of herpesviridae family and a sub-category of Gamma herpes virinae. EBV, which normally has CR2 or CD21 receptors on B-lymphocytes, has mutagenic features for them. The virus plays an important role in causing some malignant cancers. About 30% of the cases with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma are diffuse large B-cell l...
